On Wings of Thought

In the middle of the night
on a mental flight
with no luggage or tickets,
I’m traveling light
Hawaii-bridge
on warm wings of thought
flying to a distant land
where sunlit flowers,
yellow-flowers
beautiful ocean water
and stretches of sand
Kauai-beach
invite my wandering soul
to spend some time
beyond the reach of winter’s hand.    ~ms
Snow-tree

Mary-KauaiAll photos taken on the islands of Kauai and Oahu, except (of course) the snow photo which I took here in Virginia.

    • I agree with you. It’s kind of depressing, these cold grey days.
My children grew up in Hawaii., and I remember their reaction the first time we came back to visit relatives in Maryland…in the winter.
My daughter said, “I hate this place. It’s cold and all of the trees are dead. Everything is dead.”
I replied, “Oh no. The trees aren’t dead. All of the leaves will come back in the Spring, when it gets warm—-in about 3 months from now.
She looked around at all of the trees, and then she looked at me, shook here head and said (sarcastically): “Oh sure mom. Why are you lying to me!”
If you have never seen the seasons before, it is extremely hard to believe that miles and miles of “dead” trees are not dead!

    • Me too…I lived there for a total of 11 years.
Loved it. I even took a class in the Hawaiian language.
The language is as spiritual as the islands.
The word aloha actually means: Alo (presence) — Ha (breath).
May breath be with you always. Breathe! Live! Aloha!
In my mind, I will always call Hawaii home.

    • Thanks for writing. It’s snowing outside right now. Once again imagining that I am sitting on a piece of driftwood in the warm sun….on the island of Kauai. I just went outside to brush the heavy snow from the river birch trees that are bending to the ground. Now I am really cold. Time for tea. 🙂
