Cold Cat Winter

6, 8, 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) at night,
with freezing snow and ice—
how will I survive?
I gave away my blankets,
my pillows and my bed,
when blue eyes came begging
without a word and said:
It’s a cold cat winter!

It is impossible to ignore our male cat when he wants something, because Keona knows how to use the cat equivalent of the Star Trek “Vulcan Mind Meld.”  Yesterday, sitting on my bed and staring straight into my soul, his unwavering eyes silently chanted that irresistible mantra: “My mind to your mind; your thoughts to my thoughts….”

Practically hypnotized by the intensity of his eyes, I had no choice but to acquiesce. I immediately gave him everything that he wanted for himself and his best friend.Cats-in-bed

Truthfully—there is always enough room on the bed and enough blankets left for me. And, in such bone chilling weather, it’s rather nice being surrounded by fur that purrs.

Since I cannot fall to sleep as quickly and easily as the cats, I decided to watch them for a little while last night. It appears that their secret to falling into a deep and restful sleep, is to do a little calming meditation first. Aha!  Ohmmm……Brrrrr…….Aummm. Winter-Cat-meditation

  1. Beautiful Cats – Beautiful Blue Eyes:)

    • Intense those blue eyes! He (Keona) often does the cat version of the Star Trek “Vulcan Mind Meld.” When he wants something, he will sit down in front of us and stare like this. He thinks that we can hear what he is thinking and IF we don’t understand his wordless mental message correctly…..he gets rather annoyed. Poor baby! Dumb humans. 😉

  2. Really cute kitties. Cats know how to keep warm!

Fur that purrs, I like that too! Gorgeous kitties.

  8. Nice poem and pictures! Cats are really special animal. I had one pure white persian female. She was awesome. After she passed away we do not have another because of my wife allergy.

    • Thanks!
Thanks. Persians are beautiful, but they have a lot of hair–so a person with an allergy to cats would have a rough time! Some people start sneezing if a cat has been in the room (even if it isn’t there anymore) .

  9. They look very comfortable 🙂

  10. Yep, those cats are really suffering from the cold. 🙂

I had a cat like that, he was tabby, long haired and completely barking. But he did the stare and the making himself extremely comfortable. He couldn’t spend the night on our bed though, he would purr and wake me for love and attention every half hour all night. We used to lock him in a room upstairs. He started off sleeping in the kitchen but he used to open the bread bin and eat the bread.

    Cheers

With this past heavy winter storm, it’s worth the warmth..at last for pretty cats.

    • I certainly was worth the warmth. It was a long cold winter and now I can’t wait for the spring! Technically it is spring now, but the weather outside doesn’t know it yet. Another winter storm is predicted for this Tuesday.
